Farms or agricultural lands are lands devoted to the production and management of food, either produce or livestock. Farms may be enterprises owned and operated by individuals, families, companies or corporations. There are several different classes of farms depending upon what they produce. Orchards produce tree fruits or nuts, vineyards produce grapes for the table, raisins or wine, dairies produce milk and cream and their secondary products, market gardens or truck farms grow mainly vegetables and little or no grain. Other farms grow various types of livestock and there are various combinations of the above types of farms.
In the ever-changing world it seems many small farms are disappearing in the wake of large agri-businesses and housing developments. The small farm that was probably the norm 200 years or less ago is now relegated to the status of “hobby” farm. The farms section here is an effort to preserve in part some the rural pastoral landscape that has existed in the Pacific Northwest for the last 50 to 100 years or so
